Recommendations

Cognos recommends that customers who want to migrate from Series 7 to Cognos 8 follow proven practices in order to ensure success:

1. Build new applications in IBM Cognos 8.
2. Migrate active PowerPlay applications and users to IBM Cognos 8 BI PowerPlay.
3. Maintain existing IBM Cognos Series 7 applications "as is".
4. Set up interoperability between IBM Cognos Series 7 applications (other than PowerPlay) and IBM Cognos 8 BI.
5. Gradually migrate other IBM Cognos Series 7 applications and users to IBM Cognos 8 BI.
